The Honeymooner's Nest

Actually  the "Nest" is more like the movie 'The Money Pit" with Tom Hanks. But I would like to start off my blogs with this little story, because it start the new chapter in my life of being married and my new journey with the love my life.

My husband and I decided to get married after an on again and off again dating life on October 21, 2011. We needed a place to live, so we hit the ksl pages and found an adorable 100 year old home! It was affordable and had lots of character. Which seems to be the problem with me being so caring and wanting to fix things up!

We move and the place is full of dust, I look at my husband with a dustpan in hand and a rag in the other, and say, "lets get going we can make this place shine and make it our own!" After all day of cleaning and trying to stains up that probably had been there for years that wouldnt come up, I started to doubt this would be any fun. Im not sure if the was the bathroom clogged sink(no matter how much drano i put down the sink the thing wouldnt unplug) or the cabnet doors coming off that through me for a loop. The place had been renovated and looked nice the day time, but come night was when we found the down falls! Lgiht sockets were upside down and in weird places, so we had to makeshift lamps for lighting. It seemed to do alright for the time being.

After a couple months of getting things organized, cleaned, and fixed we were comfortable. The place wasnt decorated like we would like but who is really looking at the decorations when you are newly wed:).  Then comes new years! We had a huge snow storm in the middle of the night and the power went out. Eric had to get to work, so I went outside to the side of the house to flip the breaker and POW! Sparks flew in the year and the break blew up. I'm surprised all i felt was a little jolt and didn't fly up in the year!

I went in side and called the power company to come out and take a look. They came within ten minutes of call. A little ol' cowboy kind of man with a huge mustache came to the door and laughed as i was bundled in my coat still in my pjs. He said, "You poor thing how long have you been without power little lady?". I laughed and told him four hours but I had my dogs to keep me warm. He then proceeded to look at the meter and told me I was lucky I hadn't been electricuted! That the entire thing needed to be replaced. So I called my landlord. He told me that his electrician wouldnt be there for four days because he was out of town. I thought to myself great, get a new one out here!

We ended up staying with my family for the holiday and the electrian finally came and fixed the new meter by placing a pole through the roof and a new meter on the wall. Well now there is a gaint crack in the room and down the side of the house. Glad we didnt buy it!

As time moves on I am really getting frustrade with all the cleaning involved, the high power bills, and leaking faucets. The diswasher not worker and only being able to get hot water out of the faucet, is starting to make me look for new homes to live. The cute charm of the house has now taken it's toll and has worn off completely.  The moral of my story...cute charming houses are not cute and charming and cost lots of money to maintain and you can't decorate a adobe homes, for a house that is already made out of swiss cheese doesn't need anymore holes, as my husband tells me. :)
